The first step - Waking up and starting the day.
When we're in a low spot in our lives it feels like the whole world says "Why bother?". It's like the gravitational force of our bed is a thousand times normal. Our eyes won't open, won't focus, and we're actively seeking some reason to not start.
"The first step is the hardest."
That's what 'they' say, but it's a lie. A platitude. The second step is harder than the first, and the third harder yet, and the hundred and fiftieth step is vastly harder than the first, but by then you'll be too tired to notice. You'll also be stronger.
Sure, that first step is important. We need a catalyst, something that breaks the tension keeping us in place and sends us off and running. If we're lucky, we'll catch a couple of breaks and build some momentum. We'll need it. Like I said, this only gets harder as we go.
Where did this idea come from that life gets easier as we go on? I see people all the time that seem to think that they can put in a bit of work now and coast. They've got it all fucked up. Show me a single video game that gets easier the longer you play it. It seems to me, some people are looking at successful people on social media and thinking "Their life is easy, because of their success."
No. It's not.
They just didn't avoid step 1, 2, 3, 4 or any of the steps to get where they are. There are no shortcuts. You have to take every step. It's math. Reality makes you show your work.
So, it's Monday. Hopefully, you can break the gravity of Planet Matress and set course for your next goal, your next step. One thing I know for sure, is that it's easier if we go together, because none of this gets easier.
Have a great week!
